PHNOM PENH, August 20, 2026 — The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) conducted a field visit to the Stung Bot International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province on Thursday to observe, verify and report on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border following the entry into force of a ceasefire.

The visit began at 10:25 a.m. on August 20, with the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) facilitating the AOT-KH mission led by its Head of Mission from the Philippines, Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

The inspection took place at the Stung Bot checkpoint in Stung Bot Village, Phsar Kandal District, Poipet Municipality, as part of efforts to support implementation of the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire.

According to the Cambodian Defence Ministry, the presence of the ASEAN observers is intended to promote transparency and mutual trust, protect civilian lives and support efforts toward rapid recovery and a return to normalcy, lasting peace and stability.

The ministry reaffirmed the Cambodian government’s commitment to fully and consistently implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.

The latest visit forms part of Cambodia’s continued support for on-site AOT activities aimed at monitoring and verifying implementation of the ceasefire along the border.
