BANGKOK, April 6, 2026 — Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow attended Lao New Year celebrations at the Lao Embassy in Bangkok, underscoring cultural ties between the two neighbouring countries.

Anutin, who attended as a guest of honour, took part in a traditional Baci ceremony alongside senior officials including Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

The Baci ritual involves tying white strings around participants’ wrists as a gesture of goodwill, symbolising wishes for health, prosperity and peace.

The event marked the upcoming Lao New Year and highlighted shared cultural traditions between Thailand and Laos, including the region’s “water festival” celebrations.

Thailand and Laos maintain close diplomatic and cultural relations, with regular exchanges and joint participation in traditional and religious events.
