BREAKING: Thai Artillery Attack on Civilian Areas in Pursat BREAKING: Thai Artillery Attack on Civilian Areas in Pursat

Phnom Penh, 9 December 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a strong condemnation following what it described as a serious violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty after a military attack by Thai forces along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

According to the official press release, at 12:33 PM on 9 December 2025, Thai military units launched 105mm and 155mm artillery shells, indiscriminately targeting civilian residential areas in Thmar Da Commune, Veal Veng District, Pursat Province, within Cambodia’s 5th Military Region.

The Cambodian Ministry of National Defence denounced the attack in the strongest possible terms, describing the incident as inhumane and brutal, and a grave breach of the Ceasefire Agreement and the Joint Declaration signed between Cambodia and Thailand on 26 October 2025.

The Joint Declaration was signed by both countries in the presence of Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, and Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, in his capacity as ASEAN Rotating Chair.

The Ministry emphasized that Cambodia remains firmly committed to peace, international law, and existing bilateral and regional agreements, while calling on Thailand to immediately cease hostilities and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cambodia.

The Ministry also stated that further details will be released as the situation continues to develop.
