Bus Crashes Into Thai Culture Ministry Art Gallery Amid Cambodia–Thailand Cultural Row
BANGKOK, October 28, 2026 — A passenger bus crashed into an art gallery building at Thailand’s Ministry of Culture on the morning of October 27, 2026, amid an ongoing cultural debate between Cambodia and Thailand.
The collision occurred at around 7.30am after the bus had dropped off students at Thailand Cultural Centre and was attempting a U-turn, according to the initial police account. No injuries were reported, including among the driver and students, who had already left the vehicle before the crash.
The incident comes as cultural representation and historical narratives have become subjects of renewed public discussion between the neighbouring countries, including controversy surrounding the Thai drama Scarlet Heart Thailand and its use of Myanmar court costumes.

Driver Reportedly Lost Control of Bus
According to the driver’s initial account to police, the bus was turning left when it moved into another lane. Its side mirror then struck a vehicle in front, causing the driver to panic.
The driver reportedly said the accelerator subsequently became stuck, leaving him unable to control the bus. The vehicle then crashed through a hedge and struck the Ministry of Culture’s art gallery building.
Police from Huai Khwang Police Station were notified shortly after the incident.

Investigation Under Way
Police have recorded the incident and coordinated with the bus company’s insurer. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and will determine what legal action, if any, is warranted.
Although the crash occurred during a period of heightened cultural debate involving Cambodia and Thailand, police have not indicated any connection between the accident and the dispute.
The investigation remains ongoing.
