Cambodia Attracts $4.3 Billion in Investment Inflows in First Half of 2026
PHNOM PENH, 29 July 2026 — Cambodia recorded a net financial account inflow of US$4.3 billion in the first half of 2026, equivalent to 15.5% of gross domestic product (GDP), marking a sevenfold increase from the same period last year, according to the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC).
The central bank said the sharp rise reflects the country’s economic resilience and continued attractiveness to investors despite global and regional uncertainties.
The inflows were driven primarily by foreign direct investment (FDI) and other investment. Net FDI reached US$2.6 billion, an 18.5% increase from a year earlier.
According to the NBC, growth in FDI was led by the financial sector, where investment surged 110.9%, while investment in the non-financial sector increased 8.9%.
Within the non-financial sector, manufacturing investment rose 14%, energy investment increased 23.3%, and construction edged up 0.1%. Investment in agriculture, real estate, and hotels and entertainment, however, declined slightly during the period.
The central bank also reported a net inflow of US$1.1 billion under the “other investment” category, reversing a net outflow of US$2.5 billion recorded in the first half of 2025.
According to the NBC, the turnaround was mainly attributable to a reduction in overseas deposits and a 27.1% increase in net government borrowing.
The figures underscore continued investor confidence in Cambodia’s economy, with capital inflows supporting economic activity and strengthening the country’s external financial position, according to the central bank.
