PHNOM PENH, April 2, 2026 — Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD has pledged to deepen cooperation with Cambodia to develop a skilled workforce for the country’s growing EV sector, officials said.

Cambodia’s Labour Minister Heng Sour met with BYD Cambodia General Manager Ye Chenghui to discuss expanding collaboration on technical training and human resource development aligned with rising demand in the EV industry.

The initiative aims to equip Cambodian workers with skills needed for electric vehicle production, maintenance and related services, while supporting the country’s transition toward green energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Heng Sour welcomed BYD’s investment, describing it as a sign of strong investor confidence in Cambodia and a driver of job creation, technology transfer and sustainable economic growth.

He also highlighted government support for the sector, including recent tax exemptions on the import of family electric vehicles to accelerate EV adoption and attract further investment.

Officials said the partnership could include the establishment of specialized training centers, internship programs and study visits to production facilities, aimed at preparing a future-ready workforce.

BYD said it remains committed to expanding its presence in Cambodia, focusing on environmentally friendly transport solutions and contributing to the country’s broader development goals.

The cooperation reflects Cambodia’s push to build a competitive, resilient workforce while advancing its green economy strategy.
