NEW YORK, October 5, 2026 — Cambodia has called for predictable, affordable and long-term development financing to support sustainable development and help the country navigate its transition out of Least Developed Country (LDC) status in 2029.

Speaking during the General Debate of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Cambodian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Keo Chhea highlighted the importance of reliable long-term financing amid a changing global economic environment.

The discussion was held under the theme “Financing development in a global changing economy to accelerate SDG implementation.”

Ambassador Keo Chhea urged UN member states to ensure the timely implementation of the Compromiso de Sevilla, while encouraging stronger South-South, North-South and triangular cooperation.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation in areas including knowledge-sharing, innovation and technology transfer as tools to accelerate sustainable development.

The Cambodian ambassador also called on the international community to provide targeted and appropriate support for Cambodia’s transition toward graduation from LDC status in 2029.

Cambodia’s appeal comes as the country prepares for a major development transition, with continued access to appropriate financing and international cooperation viewed as important to sustaining development gains and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.

Cambodia’s message at the UN Second Committee therefore focused on the need for development financing that is not only available, but also predictable, affordable and sufficiently long-term to support countries navigating significant economic and development transitions.
