PHNOM PENH, 1 August 2016 — A missing Singaporean girl has been found safe in Phnom Penh after Cambodian authorities located her at TK Mall, ruling out earlier concerns that she may have been abducted.

According to Touch Sokhak, deputy spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, the girl, identified as Aishah Siregar, was found by specialist officers from the ministry after she was reported missing.

Touch Sokhak said the case was not a kidnapping, but stemmed from a family-related issue that led the teenager to leave Singapore and travel alone to Cambodia.

The announcement follows earlier reports from Singapore that Aishah had disappeared after leaving home, prompting concern from her family and an appeal for public assistance.

Cambodian authorities said she is safe and that the investigation found no evidence of criminal abduction.

Officials have not released further details about her condition or the arrangements for her return to Singapore. The case is being handled by the relevant authorities in coordination with the family.
