BANTEAY MEANCHEY, March 28, 2026 — Cambodia has taken another decisive step to uphold transparency and peace along its border, facilitating an on-site ASEAN monitoring mission to demonstrate full compliance with ceasefire agreements.

Defence Ministry spokeswoman Maly Socheata said the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) was deployed to Prey Chan village to directly observe, verify and report on the situation following the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.

The visit, coordinated by Cambodia’s liaison group, reflects Phnom Penh’s proactive approach in inviting regional partners to witness conditions on the ground, reinforcing accountability and countering misinformation.

Officials emphasised that Cambodia continues to strictly and faithfully implement all agreements reached under the General Border Committee (GBC) and the bilateral peace declaration, demonstrating its firm commitment to peaceful resolution and regional stability.

The mission also marked a smooth leadership transition within ASEAN, with the Philippines assuming the role of rotating chair from Malaysia and continuing to lead the observer team in Cambodia — a sign of strong regional confidence in Cambodia’s cooperative approach.

By welcoming ASEAN observers, Cambodia has positioned itself as a responsible and transparent actor, prioritising diplomacy, dialogue and international law in addressing border issues.

Phnom Penh reaffirmed that its ultimate goal remains the restoration of normalcy, protection of its citizens and the achievement of long-lasting peace along the Cambodia–Thailand border.
