Cambodia, Malaysia Advance Digital Media Cooperation
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 25 June 2026 – Cambodia and Malaysia have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in the information sector, including media exchanges, professional training and digital communication, during talks held on the sidelines of an ASEAN senior officials’ meeting in Brunei.
The meeting took place during the 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI), held from 24 to 25 June in Bandar Seri Begawan. The Cambodian delegation was led by Prak Thav Amida, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Information and Cambodia’s SOMRI leader, who met with officials from Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications.
Malaysia expressed its full support for Cambodia’s preparations to host the 24th SOMRI and the 18th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) meeting in 2027.
Both sides also welcomed the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Penang, describing it as a strong foundation for long-term cooperation between the two ministries.
To implement the agreement, Cambodia and Malaysia discussed establishing a joint working committee to prepare for the first ministerial-level meeting, aimed at strengthening policy coordination and strategic cooperation in the information sector.
The two countries agreed to promote direct cooperation between their respective agencies to facilitate exchanges of expertise, technology and media content. They also outlined plans for joint training programmes between Malaysia’s Institute of Public Relations and Public Speaking Training Academy (IPPTA) and Cambodia’s journalism training centre to enhance journalists’ technical skills and professional ethics in the digital era.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation and working together to build a secure, resilient and people-centred digital information ecosystem across ASEAN.
