Cambodia Opens Seized Scam Equipment to National and International Media

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 22, 2026 — National and international journalists visited the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissariat on Tuesday to report on a large cache of technical equipment seized by Cambodian authorities during operations against online scam activities in the capital.

According to information released by Cambodian authorities, the seized equipment includes approximately 20,000 mobile phones, 2,017 all-in-one computers, 490 laptops, 2,036 computer monitors and 1,348 CPUs.

Police specialists briefed the visiting media on some of the methods allegedly used by scam groups to lure and manipulate victims before targeting them for extortion.

The equipment was displayed as Cambodia continues a broader crackdown on online scam activities and as Phnom Penh hosts the International Conference on Combating Online Scams, bringing together government representatives, law-enforcement agencies and international partners.

Authorities said the seized devices provide an indication of the scale of equipment used in scam operations, where large numbers of phones and computers can be deployed to contact potential victims and conduct fraudulent activities.

Police also demonstrated examples of tactics allegedly used by criminal groups to deceive victims and draw them into targeted scams, including schemes designed to pressure victims into transferring money.

The media visit forms part of continuing efforts by Cambodian authorities to provide national and international journalists with direct access to information and evidence from recent anti-scam operations.

Cambodia has intensified enforcement against online scam networks in recent months, while seeking greater international cooperation to address the transnational nature of the crime and protect people who may be trafficked or coerced into scam operations.
