PHNOM PENH, Feb. 5, 2026 — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence on Thursday rejected as false reports by Thai media claiming that a 40-millimetre grenade had landed near a Thai military base close to the Cambodia–Thailand border.

In a statement posted on social media, defence ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said several Thai outlets had reported that Thailand’s 2nd Army Region had detected a 40mm explosive round near the Phlan Hin Pet Kon military base.

“The Ministry of National Defence categorically rejects these reports as fabricated and completely contrary to the facts,” the spokesperson said, adding that the claims were intended to mislead public opinion and inflame tensions along the Cambodian–Thai border.

According to the ministry, Cambodia’s Military Region 4 had already verified the situation through direct communication with Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, confirming that no such incident had occurred.

The defence ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to fully implementing agreements reached under the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee on Dec. 27, 2025, as well as the ceasefire agreement signed on Oct. 26, 2025.

Cambodia also urged the public and media to refrain from sharing unverified information and to rely on official sources, warning that the spread of false reports could undermine peace, stability and efforts to restore normalcy along the border.
