Cambodia Seeks Closer Cybercrime Cooperation with India
PHNOM PENH, 22 July 2026 — India has pledged its full support for Cambodia’s upcoming International Conference on Combating Cyber-Enabled Fraud, reaffirming closer cooperation between the two countries to tackle online scam networks and other technology-enabled crimes.
The commitment came during talks on Tuesday between Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith, head of Cambodia’s Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Cyber Fraud, and Indian Ambassador to Cambodia Vanlalvawna Bawitlung.
During the meeting, Sinarith praised the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and India and highlighted the importance of expanding information sharing and capacity-building between India’s Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and Cambodia’s anti-cyber fraud commission.
He also briefed the ambassador on Cambodia’s preparations to host the International Conference on Combating Cyber-Enabled Fraud, scheduled for Sept. 23-24, 2026, in Phnom Penh.
Sinarith invited India to support the event and participate by sharing its experience and expertise in combating cyber-enabled fraud.
In response, Ambassador Bawitlung thanked Cambodia for the close cooperation between the two countries and commended the Cambodian government’s efforts and firm measures to combat cyber-enabled fraud.
He also praised Cambodia for prioritizing the safety and welfare of victims affected by online scam operations.
The ambassador reaffirmed India’s full support for the international conference and expressed his country’s readiness to contribute to the event.
Before concluding the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly through timely intelligence and information sharing, as well as training programs to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officials to more effectively investigate and combat cyber-enabled fraud.
