PHNOM PENH, April 27, 2026 — Cambodia had 47,029 registered enterprises, companies and factories by the end of the first quarter of 2026, with total employment rising to about 2.3 million workers, Prime Minister Hun Manet said.

The figures were released in a message marking the 140th anniversary of International Labour Day on May 1 under the theme “Building Resilience Together for Decent Work.

Hun Manet said Cambodia’s economy grew about 5.2% in 2025 and was expected to maintain strong momentum in 2026 despite global uncertainty and geopolitical pressures.

He said the government had continued to improve the business and investment climate, helping attract foreign direct investment.

According to the statement, Cambodia approved 105 foreign investment projects worth about $966 million in the first two months of 2026, projects expected to create additional jobs.

The prime minister also highlighted labour measures aimed at supporting workers, including a $2 increase in the monthly minimum wage for the garment, footwear and travel goods sectors to $210.

He added that workers in those sectors could receive total monthly income ranging from $229.5 to $240.5 after including transport allowances and other mandatory benefits.

Cambodia’s export-driven manufacturing sector remains a major pillar of the economy, with garments, footwear and travel goods among its largest employers.
