Cambodian and Thai Foreign Ministers Meet in New York to Discuss Border Situation
NEW YORK, May 27, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held talks with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York on May 26, 2026.
According to the Cambodian Foreign Ministry, both sides focused extensively on rebuilding trust, reducing border tensions, resuming bilateral mechanisms and restoring normal relations between the two neighboring countries.
The discussions came amid ongoing diplomatic efforts following recent border-related tensions between Cambodia and Thailand.
The meeting also served as a follow-up to the trilateral talks held earlier this month in Cebu, Philippines, involving Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Thailand and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Officials said both countries emphasized the importance of confidence-building measures and continued dialogue to maintain stability along the border and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The talks took place during the UN Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York, where regional security, peaceful dispute resolution and adherence to international law were among the key themes discussed by participating countries.
