PHNOM PENH, Aug. 24, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko on Monday as the two countries looked to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and other areas.

Rudenko is in Cambodia to co-chair the third session of Cambodia-Russia bilateral political consultations, according to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn recalled a June 18 meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan, Russia, as well as recent discussions with Russian Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Prak Sokhonn expressed appreciation for what he described as longstanding relations and growing cooperation between Cambodia and Russia over the past 70 years. The two countries are marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

The officials discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in priority areas including politics, trade and investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

They also discussed expanding cooperation through regional and international frameworks, including the United Nations, the ministry said.

The meeting preceded the third session of the Cambodia-Russia bilateral political consultations, which the two officials were scheduled to co-chair later on Aug. 24.
