Cambodia’s MOD Condemns ‘False and Dangerous’ Thai Allegations Over Border Mines

Phnom Penh, 3 December 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence (MOD) of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a firm rebuke to a statement released earlier today by Thailand’s 2nd Army Area, which alleged that a landmine explosion occurred in the Huai Tamaria area and falsely accused Cambodia of planting the device.

H.E. Ltg Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the MOD, categorically dismissed the Thai Army’s claims as baseless, misleading, and politically motivated, asserting that the accusations seek to distort facts and mask an unlawful attempt to encroach upon Cambodia’s legitimate sovereign territory.

According to information verified by Cambodia’s Military Region 4, no landmine explosion was recorded at the stated time of 14:20 on 2 December 2025, directly contradicting the claims circulated by Thailand’s 2nd Army Area.

The Ministry reiterated Cambodia’s steadfast compliance with the Ottawa Convention, underscoring that the Kingdom has not laid any new anti-personnel mines and remains committed to all international obligations to protect human safety and security.

Cambodia called on Thailand to immediately cease weaponizing misinformation and using fabricated landmine narratives as a pretext for territorial violations. Such actions threaten peace, stability, and the spirit of cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.

The Ministry further emphasized Cambodia’s firm commitment to the Joint Declaration on Peace, signed between Cambodia and Thailand on 26 October 2025 — particularly the provisions obliging both sides to prevent the spread of false information in order to reduce tensions and safeguard a peaceful environment along the border.

The Ministry urged the public and national and international media to remain vigilant and rely on verified information as the situation develops.
