China Criticizes Taiwan for Dropping Cambodia from Visa Program
BEIJING, 20 July 2026 — China’s Foreign Ministry on Monday defended Cambodia after Taiwan’s authorities removed the country from their Visa Facilitation Programs, while praising Phnom Penh’s steadfast commitment to the One-China principle.
Responding to the move, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry reiterated Beijing’s position that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, describing the One-China principle as an international consensus widely recognized by the global community.
The spokesperson criticized Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities, accusing them of using visa policies as a coercive political tool.
According to the spokesperson, the decision to remove Cambodia from the visa facilitation program demonstrates what Beijing described as the “malicious nature” of the DPP authorities’ separatist agenda.
China also commended Cambodia for maintaining what it described as a firm and consistent position in support of the One-China principle.
The spokesperson said Cambodia’s stance shows that Taiwan’s separatist agenda lacks international support and argued that continued pursuit of such policies would ultimately lead to a “dead end.”
Taiwan’s authorities have not been quoted in the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s statement, and Beijing’s remarks reflect the Chinese government’s official position on the matter.
