PATTAYA, May 7, 2026 — A Chinese national has died after being assaulted inside an unlicensed host club in Pattaya, Thai authorities said on Thursday, as police launched a major investigation into the fatal attack and the illegal operation of the venue.

Emergency services responded to reports of a serious assault at the Vegas Exclusive Club in South Pattaya at around 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday. The victim, a 39-year-old Chinese man, was found unconscious with severe facial injuries and later died despite attempts by medics to revive him.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station, local officials and rescue workers attended the scene, where the man was found with swelling around the left eye, a torn lip and multiple bruises across his body.

Authorities said several staff members and foreign tourists were present when officers arrived, though some individuals fled before police reached the venue. Six employees were detained for questioning.

According to preliminary witness statements, the victim had been drinking and playing snooker before becoming involved in a dispute inside the club. Investigators said he allegedly climbed onto a VIP table, provoking anger among other patrons and triggering a violent confrontation.

Witnesses told police the assault initially subsided before violence erupted again, after which the victim collapsed and lost consciousness.

Police said they were not fully convinced by the initial accounts and are continuing to review CCTV footage and question witnesses to establish the exact sequence of events.

Investigators are attempting to identify and locate several individuals, including customers and staff believed to have fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Local administrative officials confirmed the venue had been operating without a licence and was illegally providing entertainment services. Authorities said they would recommend the closure of the establishment to the Chon Buri provincial governor.

Police said further legal action is expected against both those directly involved in the assault and the operators of the illegal venue.
