Chinese woman escapes alleged abduction during journey to Mae Sot
BANGKOK, Aug. 25, 2026 — A Chinese woman escaped from a car in Thailand’s Kamphaeng Phet province late on Sunday after four Thai men allegedly abducted her from a Bangkok hotel and drove her towards the Myanmar border, police said.
The woman fled from a black Nissan Teana on Ratchadamnoen Road in tambon Nai Muang, Muang district, with her hands still tied, according to local media reports. Residents who found her alerted authorities.
She was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the reported abduction.
The woman told people who assisted her that four Thai men had taken her from a hotel in Bangkok and were driving her towards a border area.
Police later said they believed the group intended to take her to Mae Sot district in Tak province, which borders Myanmar, and that she might then have been taken across the border.
The woman escaped in Kamphaeng Phet, north of Bangkok, as the vehicle was travelling west towards the border.
Police tracked the Nissan Teana to tambon Lan Dokmai in Muang district and arrested two men, aged 24 and 41, both of whom were from Mae Sot district in Tak province, authorities said.
Two other suspects fled before police could detain them.
Authorities have not released the names of the woman or the suspects.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive or provided further details about how the alleged abduction began at the Bangkok hotel.
The investigation is continuing.
