PRACHIN BURI, Oct. 5, 2026 — Abhaibhubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri province began urgently evacuating inpatients on Thursday after floodwaters rose to around 1 metre around and inside the hospital compound.

According to Thai PBS, patients were being transported by boat to an emergency-response building before being transferred by military four-wheel-drive vehicles to a temporary hospital at Chakrapong Military Camp.

The temporary facility has a capacity of approximately 200 beds and was prepared to receive patients from the flooded hospital.

Critical Patients, Children and Newborns Among First Evacuated

The first groups evacuated included critically ill patients, children, mothers and newborn babies.

Deep floodwaters and difficult road conditions have slowed the evacuation. Each military vehicle can carry only around six people per trip, with each journey taking between 40 minutes and one hour.

According to Chakrapong Hospital, the patients being transferred include 37 classified as critical or “red” cases, 50 classified as “yellow” or moderate cases, and 80 classified as “blue” or less serious cases.

Because of the severity of some patients’ conditions, several were transferred onward to other hospitals for continued treatment.

Among them were three critically ill newborn babies, who were transported to Ramathibodi Hospital and Nakhon Nayok Hospital for further emergency care.

The evacuation operation was launched as floodwaters continued to rise around the Prachin Buri hospital, forcing authorities to move patients and medical services to safer locations.

The temporary hospital at Chakrapong Military Camp is being used to maintain medical care while the flooding disrupts normal operations at Abhaibhubejhr Hospital.
