Fire Destroys Sixth-Floor Condo in Pattaya, Cat Suspected
PATTAYA, 4 August 2026 — A fire at a condominium in Pattaya forced Thai and foreign residents to evacuate in the early hours of Tuesday, Aug. 4, after flames engulfed a sixth-floor apartment. No injuries were reported, although the unit and all of its contents were destroyed.
The Pattaya City Land Disaster Relief Radio Centre received a report of the blaze at 2:36 a.m. The fire broke out in Room 610 on the sixth floor of Building D at the Arcadia Beach Continental condominium in Soi Thap Phraya 7.
Police from Pattaya City Police Station, Bang Lamung district officials, rescue volunteers and firefighters rushed to the scene.
Firefighters found flames engulfing the apartment, with thick smoke spreading throughout parts of the building. Authorities evacuated residents, including both Thai and foreign nationals, while crews worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby units.
Using breathing apparatus and hose lines, firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours before bringing it under control. Officials later declared the building safe, allowing residents to return to their homes.
The apartment was extensively damaged, with its interior and all belongings destroyed. Despite the scale of the fire and the overnight evacuation, no injuries were reported.
The apartment owner, identified only as May, told officials she had been asleep when she awoke to the smell of smoke. She said she discovered flames in the kitchen near an electric stove, grabbed her mobile phone and fled the apartment before alerting a neighbour and condominium staff.
May said the fire spread rapidly, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.
She told investigators she believed her pet cat may have accidentally stepped on the stove’s power control, noting that similar incidents had occurred before.
Authorities cautioned that the cat’s involvement has not been confirmed. Forensic officers from the Chon Buri Provincial Forensic Science Division 2 will examine the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire.
