BANGKOK, Oct. 1, 2026 — A 33-year-old German man was seriously injured after falling backwards from a second-floor hotel balcony in Pattaya during the early hours of October 1. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident at a hotel in Soi Pratumnak 2.

Pattaya City Police investigator Police Sub-Lieutenant Sakayaphap Chaidech received a report of the incident at approximately 3:15 a.m. and coordinated with Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Pattaya rescue volunteers.

The injured man was identified as Philipp Hohmann, a German national. He was found lying on the ground beside the hotel with serious head injuries and heavy bleeding.

Emergency Treatment After Balcony Fall

Rescue volunteers provided first aid at the scene before rushing Hohmann to hospital for emergency treatment. Bloodstains, broken branches and one of his shoes were found in the area beneath the balcony.

According to a friend who was with him, Hohmann had been smoking on the balcony outside his second-floor room. He was reportedly leaning backwards against the balcony wall when he suddenly fell backwards to the ground.

The friend then ran to alert hotel staff and seek assistance.

Daeng, 52, the hotel receptionist, told police that Hohmann had been staying on the second floor with another German friend. She said the friend came to the reception desk and reported that Hohmann had fallen from the second floor, prompting hotel staff to contact emergency authorities.

Police Find No Signs of Struggle

Police and detectives inspected Hohmann’s hotel room following the incident. Officers reported finding no signs of a struggle or other immediately suspicious circumstances inside the room.

However, investigators found broken glass, cannabis and equipment believed to have been used for smoking cannabis. Police photographed the items and recorded them as evidence as part of their investigation.

Police are continuing to question Hohmann’s friend and examine physical evidence from the scene to determine the exact circumstances and cause of the fall.
