Hua Hin Drug Bust: 166kg of Ice Found in Suitcases Inside BMW
HUA HIN, 11 Aug 2026 — Thai police have seized about 166kg of crystal methamphetamine, known locally as ice, from a BMW in Hua Hin and detained a 20-year-old Malaysian national suspected of transporting the drugs.
Police said the vehicle attempted to avoid a checkpoint before officers stopped it outside a convenience store in Hua Hin district, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
The arrest was announced on August 10, 2026, by Pol Gen Samran Nuanma, deputy national police chief.
According to police, the operation followed an investigation into smaller-scale drug dealers in Hua Hin that allegedly uncovered information about a larger trafficking network.
Investigators said the network was suspected of moving narcotics from Suvarnabhumi Airport, using vehicles to temporarily store consignments before distributing them in Hua Hin.
After receiving information that a BMW with Bangkok registration plates would be carrying a large drug shipment, police established a checkpoint on Hua Hin Soi 8.
When the vehicle approached, officers said the driver appeared suspicious and attempted to flee. Police pursued the BMW and stopped it outside a convenience store.
The driver was identified as a 20-year-old Malaysian man.
Police said several suitcases were found inside the vehicle. The suspect allegedly told officers that the suitcases did not belong to him and that he did not know the combinations required to open them.
The vehicle and suspect were taken back to the checkpoint, where officers searched the suitcases with the suspect’s consent. Police said they found approximately 166kg of crystal methamphetamine inside.
The suspect, the BMW and the seized drugs were handed over to Hua Hin police investigators for legal proceedings.
Pol Gen Samran ordered investigators to expand the case and identify other people allegedly involved in the trafficking network and the transportation of the drugs.
He said the seizure demonstrated the scale of narcotics trafficking into Thailand, noting that Hua Hin authorities had seized 166kg in the operation while Bangkok authorities had separately seized up to 1,000kg, or one tonne, of drugs.
Police said the investigation into the wider network remains ongoing.
