Hun Manet Calls for Expanded Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Security Ties
PHNOM PENH, 30 June 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called for closer security cooperation between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, urging their interior and public security ministries to deepen collaboration in combating transnational crime, strengthening border security and promoting regional stability.
Hun Manet made the remarks on June 30 during separate meetings at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh with Lao Minister of Public Security Vanthong Kongmany and Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang.
The Lao and Vietnamese ministers praised the longstanding cooperation between their ministries and Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, saying it had helped strengthen bilateral and trilateral relations. They also briefed the prime minister on the outcomes of the second ministerial meeting between the three ministries, hosted by Cambodia, and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding future cooperation.
Hun Manet welcomed the successful outcome of the meeting and highlighted the longstanding friendship among Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. He noted that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos, while Cambodia and Vietnam will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2027.
The leaders also discussed strengthening security cooperation, particularly among border provinces, with the aim of maintaining peaceful, friendly and cooperative border areas while promoting development.
They agreed to enhance joint efforts against transnational crimes, including human trafficking, drug smuggling and online scams, through closer coordination among relevant authorities.
Before concluding the meetings, Hun Manet encouraged the three ministries to further expand cooperation, saying stronger security ties would also support broader economic, trade and investment cooperation among the three neighbouring countries.
He also called for greater people-to-people exchanges, particularly among young people, to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
