PHNOM PENH, Oct. 3, 2024 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on Cambodians at home and abroad to place their trust in the Royal Government as it continues efforts to address outstanding issues along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

On Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2026, Hun Manet reposted a video of remarks he delivered to Cambodian civilians displaced by the border conflict during a visit to Preah Vihear province on January 31, 2026.

In an accompanying message, the Prime Minister recalled that he had outlined government measures aimed at protecting civilians’ lives, pursuing lasting peace to prevent a recurrence of conflict and restoring the livelihoods of people affected by the fighting.

Hun Manet said that, over the approximately eight months since those measures were announced, the government had worked to turn them into concrete results for people affected by the conflict.

Border Issue Remains Unresolved

The Prime Minister acknowledged that the work to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border issue is not yet complete.

However, he said the progress achieved within a relatively short period demonstrates what he described as the government’s commitment to carrying out its responsibilities according to a clearly defined plan and with a high level of responsibility toward the national interest, territory and people.

Hun Manet called on Cambodians both inside and outside the country to maintain confidence in the Royal Government as it continues working to address the remaining issues related to the Cambodia-Thailand border.

The Cambodian government has repeatedly said that border disputes with Thailand should be addressed through peaceful means and existing bilateral mechanisms. In June, Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s position that land-border issues should continue to be handled through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) in accordance with existing agreements.

Focus on Displaced Communities

The January 31 visit referenced by Hun Manet came as the government was implementing measures to assist people displaced by the border conflict.

At the time, government measures included facilitating the safe return of civilians where conditions allowed, clearing unexploded ordnance before residents returned, strengthening temporary shelters for those unable to go home and restoring damaged infrastructure and livelihoods.

In his latest message, Hun Manet said the government would continue working to address the remaining challenges while calling for public confidence in its efforts.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid continuing sensitivity along the Cambodia-Thailand frontier, where both countries have continued discussions through bilateral mechanisms aimed at maintaining the ceasefire and reducing tensions.
