More Than 100,000 Chinese Nationals Enter Cambodia Under Visa-Free Initiative

PHNOM PENH, 4 August 2026 — More than 100,000 Chinese nationals have entered Cambodia since the launch of the country’s visa-free trial programme on June 15, with nearly half arriving under the new visa exemption scheme, immigration authorities said.

According to Sok Veasna, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, Chinese arrivals reached more than 100,000 between June 15 and Aug. 2.

Of the total, about 44,500 visitors entered Cambodia as tourists under the visa-free programme, accounting for approximately 45% of all Chinese arrivals during the period.

The remaining visitors entered the country using business visas or other categories of visas, Sok Veasna told CC Times.

Cambodia introduced the four-month pilot visa exemption programme on June 15, allowing holders of People’s Republic of China (PRC) passports, including those from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau, to enter the country without a visa for tourism purposes.

The programme does not apply to holders of Taiwan passports.

Under the scheme, eligible Chinese tourists may stay in Cambodia for up to 14 days without paying visa fees or submitting a visa application. Visitors are only required to complete the Cambodia e-Arrival Card before entry.

The visa-free programme will remain in effect until Oct. 15, 2026, during which eligible Chinese tourists may enter Cambodia multiple times.
