More Than 2,000 Pigs Drown as Severe Floods Hit Thai Farm
PRACHIN BURI, October 9, 2026 — Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development has deployed 50 officers and heavy machinery to clear more than 2,000 pig carcasses from a flood-hit farm in Prachin Buri province after severe flooding drowned the animals.
Dr. Chaiwat Yothakol, director-general of the Department of Livestock Development, said the urgent operation followed instructions from the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives to help livestock farmers affected by the disaster.
The operation is being carried out by the Prachin Buri Provincial Livestock Office and the Special Task Force (Group 2) of the Bureau of Quarantine and Inspection.
Equipment deployed to the affected farm in Wang Boriboon subdistrict includes four six-wheel trucks, a power loader to lift carcasses onto transport vehicles, a flat-bottom boat and an excavator. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has also provided an additional six-wheel truck and two officers.
Teams are collecting the dead pigs and transporting them from the flooded farm to higher, unaffected ground in Nontri subdistrict, Kabin Buri district, where the carcasses will be disposed of safely.
Authorities are also accelerating efforts to evacuate surviving pigs from the inundated farm.
Dr. Chaiwat said all carcasses would be buried and sanitised in accordance with veterinary biosecurity standards to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks following the flooding.
The emergency response aims to support affected farmers while limiting potential public and animal health risks associated with the large number of livestock deaths.
