BANGKOK, May 3, 2026 — Thai immigration police have arrested a Nigerian national following a drug sting operation in Bangkok and found he had overstayed his visa by more than six months, authorities said.

The 21-year-old suspect, identified as Louis Junior, was detained after allegedly attempting to sell cocaine to an undercover informant in the Ramkhamhaeng area.

Police said the operation was launched after a tip-off about a foreign drug dealer, with an undercover source arranging to purchase 40 grams of cocaine for 100,000 baht.

When the suspect arrived at the meeting point, he fled upon noticing police, jumping over a fence into a nearby vacant area. Officers pursued him for more than two hours before locating him hiding in a water ditch early on May 2.

No drugs were recovered, with investigators believing the suspect discarded the substance while attempting to escape.

Authorities said checks revealed the man had entered Thailand in April 2025 and overstayed his permitted period by 206 days after his student visa expired.

He has been charged with visa overstay, while police continue to investigate potential links to a wider drug distribution network.

Officials said the arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on foreign nationals involved in narcotics and other criminal activities, with further investigations underway to identify accomplices.
