Phnom Penh, 9 January 2026 — The Jardin Norodom Sihanouk, named in honour of His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk, was officially inaugurated on 8 January 2026 in the town of Fère-en-Tardenois, France, marking a solemn tribute to the late monarch’s historic visit to France in pursuit of peace for Cambodia.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the distinguished presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Samdech Reach Botrei Preah Anoch Norodom Arunrasmy, High Privy Councillor to His Majesty the King and Member of the Cambodian Senate; H.E. Luy David, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the French Republic; and senior officials of the town of Fère-en-Tardenois.

The establishment of the Jardin Norodom Sihanouk stands as a lasting symbol of the enduring friendship and close cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the French Republic. Addressing the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Luy David conveyed, on behalf of the Royal Government and the Cambodian people, profound appreciation to the City Hall and Municipal Council of Fère-en-Tardenois for this meaningful initiative, which honours the memory of the late King-Father and further deepens the bonds of friendship between the two nations.

The town of Fère-en-Tardenois holds particular historical significance in Cambodia’s modern history, as it was the venue of the first meeting in 1987 between His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk and Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then Prime Minister of Cambodia.

This historic dialogue marked the beginning of Cambodia’s peace process and national reconciliation, which ultimately culminated in the 1991 Paris Peace Accords, ushering in a new era of peace, stability, and reconstruction for the Cambodian people, as underscored by the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in a recent press release.
