Prak Sokhonn Briefs Philippine Counterpart on Cambodia-Thailand Border Developments

MANILA, 20 July 2026 — Cambodia has expressed its appreciation to the Philippines for its role in supporting efforts to peacefully resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, during bilateral talks between the two countries’ foreign ministers on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn met Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro in Manila on the afternoon of 20 July 2026.

During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn conveyed Cambodia’s sincere appreciation to Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for hosting the trilateral meeting involving Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines on Cebu Island in May, which sought to advance a peaceful resolution of the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.

The Cambodian deputy prime minister also congratulated the Philippines on its recent attainment of upper-middle-income status.

Prak Sokhonn briefed the Philippine foreign secretary on the latest developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution of the dispute.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings, where regional leaders are discussing issues of common concern, including regional security, economic cooperation and ASEAN integration.
