NEW YORK, May 26, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn has reaffirmed to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres the importance of resolving international disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law.

The bilateral meeting took place on Tuesday following the high-level open debate of the United Nations Security Council in New York.

According to Cambodian officials, the talks recalled earlier discussions between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Guterres during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.

During the meeting, Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s position that conflicts and disputes must be settled through peaceful means, dialogue and adherence to international legal principles.

The Cambodian foreign minister’s remarks came amid continued diplomatic efforts surrounding regional tensions and border issues involving Cambodia and Thailand.

Cambodia has repeatedly emphasized peaceful settlement mechanisms and respect for international law following armed border clashes in 2025 that led to civilian displacement and heightened tensions along parts of the frontier.

The meeting also underscored Cambodia’s ongoing engagement with the United Nations on issues related to peace, security and international cooperation.
