NEW YORK, May 28, 2026 — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held bilateral talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on May 27, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to strengthening their comprehensive strategic partnership and enhancing cooperation on regional and international issues.

According to Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the meeting took place on the sidelines of activities related to the United Nations Security Council in New York.

During the discussions, Prak Sokhonn expressed Cambodia’s “sincere appreciation” to China in its role as rotating president of the UN Security Council for May, particularly for inviting Cambodia to participate in the High-Level Open Debate chaired by Wang Yi.

Both foreign ministers reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Cooperation and pledged to continue working closely together across multilateral platforms to promote regional stability.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the latest situation surrounding the Cambodia-Thailand border issues.

The meeting comes as Cambodia continues diplomatic engagement with international partners following tensions along the Cambodian-Thai border and ongoing efforts to maintain ceasefire arrangements and peaceful dialogue.

China remains one of Cambodia’s closest diplomatic and economic partners, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, trade, investment, defense and regional diplomacy.
