Thai Journalist Calls for Return of Seized Property, Warns Against Damage to National Reputation
BANGKOK, 5 January 2026 — A prominent Thai journalist has publicly called on the Thai authorities to uphold ethical conduct and peaceful principles in addressing border-related disputes with Cambodia, underscoring the importance of respect for property rights and diplomacy.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page on Monday, 5 January 2026, Mr. Pravit Rojanaphruk, Senior Staff Writer of Khaosod English, urged the Thai government to return any motorcycles or personal belongings that may have been seized from disputed areas to their rightful Cambodian owners.
Mr. Pravit emphasized that if any property was taken during operations in areas of overlapping land claims, restitution should be made without delay, in order to uphold moral integrity and prevent damage to Thailand’s international reputation. He further stressed that unresolved territorial claims must be addressed strictly through peaceful means and dialogue.
“Do not let anyone accuse us of being a thief,” Mr. Pravit wrote, underscoring the reputational risks associated with actions perceived as violations of civilian property rights.
His remarks reflect a growing call within Thai civil society and media circles for restraint, accountability, and adherence to international norms amid heightened sensitivities along the Cambodia–Thailand border. The statement also reinforces the broader regional consensus that border disputes must be managed through diplomacy, mutual respect, and peaceful mechanisms, in line with international law and ASEAN principles.
