Phnom Penh — 7 December 2025 — The Ministry of National Defence of the Kingdom of Cambodia has issued a firm statement confirming a serious armed incident along the Cambodia–Thailand border, while reaffirming Cambodia’s strict commitment to peace, restraint, and international law.

According to Her Excellency Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence, Thai military forces initiated gunfire at approximately 14:15 local time against Cambodian positions in the Prorlean Thmar area, Choam Kshant District, Preah Vihear Province.

The attack involved the use of handguns, B40 weapons, and 60mm mortars. Cambodian forces immediately contacted their Thai counterparts, urging an urgent cessation of fire. Throughout the incident, Cambodian forces did not return fire and exercised maximum restraint. The Thai side ceased firing at approximately 14:32 hours.

The Ministry confirmed that Cambodian forces remain on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation with extreme caution and professionalism.

In the interest of transparency and regional stability, Cambodia has formally informed the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) and will request an independent investigation into the incident to ensure objectivity, justice, and accountability.

Cambodia reiterated its unwavering adherence to the ceasefire framework and the Joint Declaration between Cambodia and Thailand, emphasizing its firm commitment to peaceful dispute resolution through diplomacy, dialogue, and full respect for international law, treaties, and conventions.

The Ministry urged the international community and media to remain accurately informed as Cambodia continues to act with restraint, responsibility, and commitment to regional peace.
