BANGKOK, 12 August 2026 — Thailand has been ranked second worldwide for school violence and bullying, behind Japan, according to research cited by Thailand’s Department of Mental Health.

The findings have drawn renewed attention to school safety in Thailand following a series of violent incidents involving educational institutions.

A survey by the Consumer Council found that 42% of Thai respondents had either experienced or personally witnessed violence in schools.

Students were identified as the main source of reported school violence, accounting for 92.3% of cases, according to the survey.

The findings highlight concerns over bullying and violence among students and the broader impact on the safety and mental wellbeing of children in Thailand.

The issue has received increased attention following recent violence at a school in Nonthaburi, where a shooting left multiple teachers and students dead.

Thai authorities have since announced measures aimed at strengthening school safety, addressing bullying and improving mental-health support for students and teachers.
