Thomas Andrews Leads UN Delegation on Border Assessment Mission

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, 27 July 2026 — Thomas Andrews, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia, visited the Boeng Trakuon border area in Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province, on Monday to observe conditions along the Cambodia-Thailand frontier.

According to provincial authorities, Andrews and his delegation conducted an on-site assessment of the border area, focusing on its geographical setting, security situation and the living conditions of residents in communities along the frontier.

The visit took place under the coordination of Banteay Meanchey Governor Oum Reatrey and relevant provincial officials, who facilitated the mission to ensure the delegation was able to conduct its assessment smoothly and receive comprehensive information.

Provincial authorities said the visit formed part of the UN Special Rapporteur’s efforts to observe conditions on the ground and gather first-hand information during his mission to Cambodia.
