BEIJING, 27 June 2026 – Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised Cambodia’s commitment and enforcement efforts against online scam networks during a meeting with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen in Beijing, while pledging closer bilateral cooperation to combat transnational cybercrime.

During the meeting, Xi commended Cambodia for its determination and actions in cracking down on online scam operations. He said China is prepared to further strengthen law enforcement cooperation with Cambodia to jointly eliminate online fraud, describing the crime as a “cancer” of organised criminal activity.

Hun Sen reaffirmed that combating online scam operations remains one of Cambodia’s top priorities and said Phnom Penh is committed to expanding cooperation with Beijing in tackling cross-border criminal networks involved in technology-based fraud.

Cambodia and China have stepped up joint operations against online scam syndicates in recent months. Earlier this year, Chen Zhi, described by Cambodian authorities as a major online scam figure, was stripped of his Cambodian nationality and deported to China.

Authorities also arrested Li Xiong, identified as a key figure linked to Chen Zhi’s network. More recently, Liu Ren was deported to China to face further legal proceedings as part of ongoing cooperation between the two countries in combating transnational online scam operations.
