PATTAYA, April 30 — Thai police are investigating the transfer of more than $4 million in bitcoin from the account of a British man shortly after his death in Pattaya, following a complaint filed by his family.

The case emerged during a child custody hearing in Chonburi on Tuesday, where the victim’s son alleged that multiple cryptocurrency transactions were carried out without authorisation in the days following his father’s death.

The man, identified as Quentin Griffiths, died in February after falling from a high-rise condominium in Pattaya while facing legal proceedings related to scam allegations.

According to the complaint, three separate bitcoin transfers were made from his digital wallet, with the funds moved to an unknown destination.

Family lawyers said the transactions would likely have required access to private credentials, raising suspicions that someone close to the deceased may have been involved.

The alleged transfers have added a financial dimension to an ongoing legal dispute between family members over the custody of Griffiths’ two children.

Relatives are seeking to relocate the children to the United Kingdom, while their mother has argued they should remain in Thailand, where they were born.

Thai authorities have not identified any suspects and said investigations into the transactions and the movement of the funds are ongoing.

The case highlights growing concerns over the security of digital assets and access to cryptocurrency accounts following a holder’s death.
