50-Year-Old American Tourist Found Dead at Phuket Hotel Room
PHUKET, June 2, 2026 — A 50-year-old American tourist was found dead inside a hotel room in Phuket late Sunday night, prompting an investigation by local police and forensic authorities.
Officers from Mueang Phuket Police Station were alerted at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 31 after hotel staff in Ratsada, Mueang Phuket district, reported the discovery of a deceased foreign guest.
The man was identified as Daniel Martin White, a United States national. According to police, he was found seated inside his room with an iron cord tied around his neck and attached to a wardrobe.
Hotel management said reception staff became concerned after being unable to contact the guest for nearly 24 hours. At around 11 p.m., maintenance personnel were asked to open the room to conduct a welfare check. Upon entering, staff found the man unresponsive and immediately notified authorities.
Police secured the scene and launched an investigation. A forensic examination was conducted by specialists from Vachira Phuket Hospital in coordination with investigating officers.
Preliminary findings indicated the man had likely died between eight and 12 hours before his body was discovered. Initial observations suggested the possibility of suicide, although police said investigations remain ongoing and no final determination has yet been made.
Authorities documented the scene, collected evidence and carried out standard forensic procedures as part of the inquiry.
Police said they are coordinating with the deceased’s relatives, the U.S. Embassy and other relevant agencies regarding the next steps.
No signs of foul play have been publicly reported, though investigators said all possibilities are being examined in accordance with legal procedures.
