Thai Army Opens Applications With Salaries of Nearly 15,000 Baht a Month
BANGKOK, Sept. 11, 2026 — The Royal Thai Army has opened applications for 18,784 volunteer soldier positions for 2027, offering Thai men aged 18 to 26 an opportunity to serve under a four-year contract with a starting salary, additional monthly allowance and pathways toward a professional military career.
The recruitment drive, which began on September 10, will remain open until January 24, 2027, according to information released by Thailand’s government public relations authorities. Applicants can choose their preferred military unit and intake nationwide, with positions available across 221 Army units.
Under the new “Volunteer Soldier” system, recruits will serve under four-year contracts and receive training and perform duties similar to regular conscript soldiers. The scheme replaces the Army’s previous “online soldier” recruitment programme as part of Thailand’s move toward a more voluntary military recruitment system.
Successful applicants will receive a starting monthly salary of 12,090 baht, plus a special monthly payment of 2,880 baht, bringing the combined monthly amount to 14,970 baht, or roughly US$450–460 depending on the exchange rate.
The programme also offers opportunities for career advancement. Volunteers who serve for at least two years will be eligible for a quota in examinations to enter the Army Non-Commissioned Officer School. They can also receive additional academic points when applying for positions as Army civil servants.
The Army said the recruitment is open to several categories of Thai men, including those aged 18–20, those aged 22–26 who have undergone military selection but were not called into service, first-category reserve personnel under 26, and conscripts scheduled to complete their service in 2027 who meet the age requirement. No specific educational qualification is required.
In addition to military training and service, the programme provides opportunities for vocational skills development and further education, allowing participants to improve their qualifications while serving.
The Thai government has presented the initiative as part of a broader effort to transition the country’s military personnel system toward voluntary enlistment, while providing recruits with greater choice over their assignments and clearer opportunities for a long-term military career.
