BANGKOK — Aug. 21, 2026: Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall have disrupted traffic on seven national highways in Thailand’s northern provinces of Nan and Phayao, with bridges collapsing and sections of road severely damaged, authorities said.

In Nan province, flooding has made sections of several national highways impassable, while some bridges have collapsed or been severely eroded by fast-moving water, according to Khaosod.

In neighbouring Phayao province, floodwaters washed across a national highway in Pong district, leaving the route impassable for smaller vehicles.

Thai authorities have urged motorists to avoid the affected routes and use alternative national highways where possible.

Officials said proper detours were not yet available for some of the damaged sections, and warned motorists to exercise caution as heavy rain and flooding continue to affect the area.

The flooding has disrupted road connectivity in the two northern provinces, with authorities working to assess damage and restore access.
