ANKARA, October 17, 2026 — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has expressed hope that the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand will be resolved peacefully through dialogue and in accordance with international law.

Erdoğan made the remarks during a joint press conference with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on October 16, following their bilateral meeting in Türkiye.

“We hope that Cambodia’s border dispute with Thailand will be resolved through dialogue and peacefully, based on international law,” Erdoğan said.

The Turkish president also pledged continued support for people affected by the conflict, according to a report published by Cambodia’s Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP).

During the press conference, Hun Manet said the two leaders had discussed a range of complex and evolving international issues during their bilateral meeting.

Both leaders highlighted the importance of multilateralism and the need for continued cooperation through the United Nations, ASEAN and other regional and international mechanisms to promote peace, stability and sustainable development.

They also emphasised respect for international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

Erdoğan’s remarks underscore Türkiye’s stated preference for a peaceful, dialogue-based resolution to the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, while his pledge of support highlights concern for those affected by the conflict.

The statement comes as Cambodia continues to emphasise international law and diplomatic engagement as essential elements in resolving its border dispute with Thailand.
