PHNOM PENH, October 26, 2026 — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords with Thailand, pledging to resolve border disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law as the agreement marks its first anniversary on October 26, 2026.

In a statement marking the anniversary of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, signed on October 26, 2025, Hun Manet said Cambodia continued to uphold the spirit of the agreement and remained committed to resolving border disputes and demarcation issues through peaceful means.

He stressed that both sides should refrain from the threat or use of force and rely on established bilateral mechanisms to address border-related issues.

These mechanisms include the Regional Border Committee (RBC), the General Border Committee (GBC) and the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), each of which has its own mandate in addressing border matters, he said.

Hun Manet Thanks Trump and Anwar Ibrahim

Hun Manet also renewed his appreciation for US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for their active roles and encouragement in bringing about the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords.

He thanked both leaders for their continued support for efforts to resolve border disputes between Cambodia and Thailand peacefully, saying the ultimate goal was to achieve sustainable peace between the two countries.

The anniversary comes as Cambodia reiterates its position that border disputes should be addressed through dialogue, established bilateral mechanisms and international law, rather than force.

Hun Manet’s statement reaffirmed Cambodia’s stated commitment to the peace declaration and the pursuit of a lasting resolution to border-related tensions with Thailand.
