PHNOM PENH, November 8, 2026 — The traditional Khmer scarf, known as the Khmer Sbai, represents an important part of Cambodia’s cultural heritage and traditional attire, featuring elegant designs that reflect the country’s distinctive artistic identity.

The scarf is typically made from a long, thin rectangular piece of fabric, which may be woven from silk or other materials and decorated with intricate patterns inspired by Khmer art.

Traditionally, the Sbai is worn draped over the shoulders and upper body, complementing traditional Cambodian clothing. It is commonly used for special occasions, including weddings, festivals and cultural ceremonies.

Its presence at the opening ceremony of the 5th National Games and the 3rd National Para Games offers an opportunity to highlight the beauty of traditional Khmer attire and celebrate the country’s cultural identity alongside its sporting achievements.
