EU Calls for Immediate Restoration of Ceasefire Between Cambodia and Thailand, Offers Monitoring Support
Phnom Penh, 17 December 2025 — The European Union has issued a strong and urgent call for the immediate restoration of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, warning that the ongoing conflict must not be allowed to escalate further.
In an official statement posted today by the European Union in Cambodia, H.E. Ms. Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, underscored the EU’s deep concern over the current situation and emphasized the necessity of halting further escalation.
“The conflict between Thailand and Cambodia must not be allowed to spiral further. That’s why the ceasefire needs to be immediately restored,” Ms. Kallas stated.
She further reaffirmed the European Union’s readiness to play a constructive role in supporting de-escalation efforts, noting that the EU stands prepared to provide satellite imagery to assist with effective ceasefire monitoring.
Ms. Kallas confirmed that this message was directly conveyed to the Foreign Ministers of both Cambodia and Thailand during her engagements with them earlier today, as part of the EU’s continued diplomatic efforts to help break the cycle of escalation and promote stability through peaceful means.
The European Union’s statement reflects strong international support for restraint, dialogue, and concrete measures to safeguard peace, stability, and civilian protection in the region.
