Phnom Penh, 29 December 2025 — The State Secretariat of Border Affairs (SSBA) of the Kingdom of Cambodia has announced that Cambodia has formally proposed convening an urgent and special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC) during the first week of January 2026 in Siem Reap Province, aimed at resuming and advancing border survey and demarcation work between the two countries.

According to the SSBA, the proposal was conveyed through a diplomatic note sent by the Cambodian side of the JBC to its Thai counterpart, in accordance with the Agreed Minutes of the Special JBC Meeting of 22 October 2025 in Chanthaburi, Thailand, and the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting of 27 December 2025, held at the Prum–Ban Pak Kard International Point of Entry.

The proposed meeting seeks to focus on the continuation of technical work in several key border segments, including the resumption of surveys and the emplacement of temporary boundary markers between Boundary Pillars No. 42–47 in Banteay Meanchey Province, and No. 52–59 in Battambang Province. Discussions are also expected to cover surveys and marker placement in additional areas, including the Boeung Trakuon area, Thmor Da International Point of Entry, and surrounding border zones in Pursat Province.

In addition, Cambodia has proposed the dispatch of Joint Survey Teams to carry out demarcation work along agreed boundary alignments, in line with the outcomes of the 6th JBC Meeting held in Phnom Penh on 15 June 2025.

On this occasion, the State Secretariat of Border Affairs reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm and consistent position in safeguarding the Cambodia–Thailand international boundary, as inherited from historical delimitation processes and established in accordance with international law, including the principle of uti possidetis juris, the Franco–Siamese conventions and treaties, and all mutually agreed maps, records, and legal instruments.

The SSBA emphasized that Cambodia remains fully committed to conducting border demarcation through peaceful, lawful, and bilateral mechanisms, and underscored that it will not recognize any alteration of the boundary resulting from the use of force. These efforts, the statement noted, are undertaken with the objective of achieving lasting peace, stability, and good neighbourly relations along the shared border.

The State Secretariat of Border Affairs further called upon compatriots and the general public to place their full trust and confidence in the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Cambodian side of the JBC, affirming that both continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, responsibility, and unwavering commitment to territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
