Bangkok Ranks Among World’s Most Polluted Cities as Smog Persists
BANGKOK, Jan 16, 2026 — Bangkok’s air quality remained at “unhealthy” levels for a third straight day on Friday due to elevated PM2.5 fine particulate pollution, according to the IQAir monitoring app, which ranked the city 18th among the world’s most polluted major cities.
Health authorities advise residents, particularly children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions, to limit outdoor activities, wear protective masks if necessary, and monitor air quality updates as smog persists across the Thai capital.
