Anutin: crane collapse victims’ families receive 1.34 million baht each
BANGKOK, Jan 20, 2026 — The Royal Thai Government has provided financial compensation of 1.34 million baht per person to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident in which a construction crane collapsed onto a passenger train in Sikhio district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Tuesday.
At a ceremony held at Government House, the Prime Minister presided over the presentation of compensation to the bereaved families, accompanied by representatives from relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Transport and the State Railway of Thailand (SRT). The compensation package comprises 340,000 baht per victim provided by the SRT and 1 million baht in insurance payments from Dhipaya Insurance Plc.
Expressing condolences on behalf of the government, Anutin described the incident as a profound national tragedy that caused deep sorrow and loss across the country. He stressed that no amount of financial assistance could compensate for the loss of life, but said the government was committed to providing timely relief and moral support to affected families.
The Prime Minister said the compensation was facilitated through coordinated insurance mechanisms and emergency assistance channels, adding that authorities would continue to monitor the process to ensure all procedures are completed fully and fairly.
He also confirmed that relevant agencies have been instructed to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the incident. Any violations of the law or findings of negligence, he said, would be addressed through strict legal action, without exception.
In response to the incident, the government has tasked the Ministry of Transport with urgently reviewing and strengthening construction safety regulations, professional standards, and enforcement measures. Public and worker safety, Anutin said, would be treated as a national priority.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his concern for those injured in the incident and encouraged affected families to remain resilient during the recovery process.
