PHNOM PENH, Jan 26, 2026 — Indonesia has expressed support for the Cambodia government’s efforts to eradicate transnational crimes, including online scam syndicates, during a farewell meeting between senior officials, Indonesia’s embassy said on Monday.

The commitment was conveyed by Santo Darmosumarto, Indonesia’s ambassador to Cambodia, during a courtesy call on Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate and former prime minister, at the Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh.

“Cross-border crimes can only be prevented through intensive cooperation, both at the bilateral and regional levels,” the ambassador said, according to the statement.

Hun Sen said Cambodia had intensified efforts to dismantle cyber-fraud syndicates over a long period, with recent operations beginning to show tangible results, particularly against organised online scam networks.

During the meeting, Darmosumarto also thanked the Cambodian government for its support in assisting and protecting Indonesian citizens, including cooperation with the Embassy of Indonesia in Phnom Penh in managing the return of Indonesians following the shutdown of several cyber-fraud centres in Cambodia.

The ambassador said Indonesia–Cambodia relations had strengthened significantly in recent years, especially in economic ties and people-to-people exchanges. He noted that growing cooperation was reflected in frequent high-level visits, including Hun Sen’s trip to Jakarta in May 2025.

Darmosumarto is due to conclude his term in Cambodia shortly and will assume a new role as Director-General for Asia Pacific and Africa at Indonesia’s foreign ministry.
